Every site with one or more computers needs a system administrator, even if all they do is check that the daily backup has worked. If you have just got your first system, or you have had one for years and still do not know how to stop that annoying message appearing every day, we can help you.

We can be the sole people administering your network ar we can work with the on-site System Administrator to supply additional resources during busy times or to act as cover for holidays, sickness etc,

Vine Software have extension experience of administering computers running a wide range of Operating Systems. These include various Linux distributions such as RedHat and SuSE, several types of Unix - in particular Solaris - but also BSD based types of Unix.

Although it is fair to say that we specialise in Unix & Linux we also have extensive experience of administering most version of Windows.


We offer:
. Short Unix and Linux system administration courses so you can confidently handle the regular system administrator's jobs. You will also know how to find out what to do when the more obscure things hit you (nobody can teach you everything about Linux in a day or so!).
. Setting up a new system. We can install and configure the system to meet your requirements, show you how to configure it yourself or just advise you on the "tricky" parts.
. Configuring your system for Internet access, or so it can act as an Internet server.
. Ensure that your system is secure. This includes ensuring that the various programs and firewalls are correctly configured. It can also include a basic penetration test.
. Remotely monitor your system to ensure it is behaving itself.
. Somebody who knows your system and is available to do the one-off jobs.
. The sympathetic ear of somebody who has already made the same mistake as you have just made!
